De otras fuentes sabemos que el 4 de agosto dos pilotos de Pan American Airways Inc., volaban de Gander Newfoundland (Terranova) hacia el aeropuerto de La Guardia, Nueva York. Salieron aproximadamente a las 12:30 tiempo del este y a las 16 p.m. estaban sobre Everett, Massachussetts. Entonces vieron un objeto brillante cuando estaban a 8,000 pies y viajando a 265 MPH. El objeto era naranja brillante, frente a su avión aunque ligeramente bajo su nivel (7,800 pies) y a una milla de distancia. Estuvo bajo observación por 30 segundos. Tenía la longitud del fuselaje de un P-40 y ambos extremos eran de forma cilíndrica y tenía un tono naranja brillante. No había ninguna sugerencia de disipación gaseosa. El objeto viajaba aproximadamente a 160 MPH. Se perdió en las nubes.
El siguiente avistamiento de Alaska es una historia particularmente atractiva por dos razones. En primer lugar, este incidente recibió una documentación detallada en los archivos militares que por lo general no era el caso para un avistamiento en un lugar tan lejano. En segundo lugar, el incidente es típico de una gran cantidad de avistamientos aire-aire de los primeros días, no sólo en la manera en que ocurrió, sino la descripción del objeto visto. De hecho, en comparación con el Caso del Vuelo 105 de United Airlines del 4 de julio, las similitudes son sorprendentes. También es comparable la hora del día en el que ambos avistamientos tuvieron lugar. Sorprendentemente, este relato rara vez se menciona en la literatura popular.
El incidente comenzó al noroeste de Bethel, Alaska, cuando el Capitán Jack Peck y el copiloto Vince Daly de un DC-3 de Al Jones Flying Service estaban en un vuelo de carga de rutina. Al atardecer de repente avistaron un objeto en forma de platillo negro cruzar su trayectoria de vuelo. Había llegado en un ángulo recto con su aeronave y Peck instintivamente hizo una subida de precaución de 1,000 a 1,200 pies para evitar cualquier posibilidad de colisión. A continuación, se abrió detrás del disco y persiguió la nave de forma peculiar, que se convirtió en una silueta contra un cielo brillante de la noche. Peck la persiguió a 170 millas por hora, hasta perderla de vista cuatro minutos después.
Durante el incidente notaron que el disco tenía una superficie aerodinámica lisa sin medios visibles de propulsión. La velocidad del objeto se calculó posteriormente en 510 millas por hora, basado en el supuesto de que el ovni viajó 34 millas en cuatro minutos, mientras que el DC-3 viajó once millas en el mismo período. Si es correcto, esto también se infiere que la nave estaba a más de veinte millas de distancia, cuando se vio por última vez. Para ser capaz de ver un objeto a esa distancia, indicaría un diámetro de al menos 50 pies y se sugiere una longitud de unos 500 pies.
Aparte de estas cifras alarmantes, el Caso Bethel llamó la atención dentro de la inteligencia entre los hombres como Alfred Loedding debido a la calidad de observadores. La aerolínea también consideró al capitán Peck como un hombre con una «excelente reputación». Una carta en los archivos de la Fuerza Aérea habla de este personaje, afirmando que «aquí nadie pone en duda en lo más mínimo, que en realidad vio este objeto».[1]

Con 194 incidentes eliminados, permanecen treinta y cuatro que contienen alguna evidencia pero no tienen aparentemente lista una explicación. Esta declaración es cierta sólo bajo la suposición de que la evidencia es aceptada como fiable y precisa. Incidente No. 58 «“ 4 de agosto de 1947, ocaso, cerca de Bethel, Alaska.
Un piloto y su copiloto observaron un objeto negro del diseño y aproximadamente las dimensiones del fuselaje de un C-54, volando a 500-1000 pies de altura N.O. El objeto cruzó su trayectoria en un ángulo recto, y ellos subieron a 1,200 pies para evitar una colisión, entonces lo persiguieron a 170, pero lo perdieron de vista en cuatro minutos. Estimaron la velocidad del objeto en tres veces la propia, o 510 MPH. Suponiendo que el estimado de velocidad es correcto, cálculos elementales determinan la distancia que viajó el objeto como 34 millas en cuatro minutos mientras que el aeroplano de los observadores se movió once millas en el mismo periodo. Por lo tanto, el objeto estaba a más de veinte millas de distancia cuando se le vio por última vez. Para ser capaz de ser visto a esta distancia bajo las condiciones dadas, el objeto debería tener alrededor de 50 pies en sus dimensiones más pequeñas. Si esto fuera cierto, y el objeto fuera proporcional con un fuselaje de un C-54, su longitud podría ser de alrededor de 500 pies. Opinión A C: Se cree que los pilotos fueron sorprendidos repentinamente por una aeronave convencional que cruzó su trayectoria, y cuando ellos persiguieron la aeronave que era «silueteada contra un brillante cielo de la tarde», fueron parcialmente enceguecidos, y por lo tanto fueron incapaces de discernir alas o motores.

1. Per AGAO-8 319.1 el siguiente informe es emitido como una materia de interés nacional. El Capitán Jack Peck y su copiloto Vince Daly han declarado que el 4 de agosto, 1947 ellos avistaron y siguieron un platillo volador al Noroeste de Bethel, Alaska. Este objeto era más grande que el Douglas D-3 que estaban volando, cruzó su curso en un ángulo recto con el de ellos. Estaba volando a una altura de mil pies. Ellos giraron detrás de él y lo siguieron a una velocidad aérea de ciento setenta millas por hora pero salió de la vista en cuatro minutos. Ellos declaran que el objeto tenía una superficie suave y aerodinámica sin ningún medio visible de propulsión.
2. Se tiene en cuenta que la Fourth Air Force dice que no hay tales cosas pero el Capitán Peck es Jefe Piloto para Al Jones flying service y no es un hombre dado a exageraciones.
