Al inicio de septiembre de 1947 hubo algunos memorándums y cartas que se manejaron en el FBI. La primera, perteneciente al propio Edgar Hoover, es en respuesta a otra recibida de Florence, Alabama, refiriéndose a la caída de un plato volador.

Sólo quiero saber cómo hacer para contarle lo que quiero que conozca. Pero por mi sencillez trataré de hacer lo mejor que pueda. Sé que usted es un hombre muy ocupado y espero que pueda tomarse el tiempo de leer mi carta y trataré de hacer corta una larga historia.
Sr. Hoover hace casi una semana, lo que llamamos un «platillo volador» cayó en mi patio delantero a una distancia de cinco a seis pies de donde yo estaba parado. Lo vi bajando del cielo. Bajo a una tremenda velocidad y explotó. Envié las piezas al Jefe XXXXX

XXXXX Estill, Carolina del Sur. Se nota que este material, que XXXXX informó ser parte de un platillo volador, ha sido identificado como piedras de jabón en polvo[1].
Se recomienda que el material sea regresado a la Sra. XXXXX junto con una carta indicándole que tal cosa ha sido identificada como piedras de jabón en polvo.

Se hace referencia a la carta del Buro fechada en julio 21, 1947, dirigida a la Sra. XXXXX Hicksville, Long Island, Nueva York, una copia de la cual ha sido enviada a la oficina de Nueva York.
La Sra. XXXXX fue entrevistada por el Agente Especial XXXXX en agosto 12, 1947, en el momento en que dijo que este mensaje codificado había aparecido en «Newsday», el periódico local de los Condados de Nassau y Suffolk, Long Island, Nueva York. Ella declaró que el mensaje había aparecido en el «County Irritant», una columna de este periódico, y había sido firmada «Radio Ham».
El Sr. XXXXX de «Newsday», Rempstead, Nueva York, fue entrevistado y dijo que este artículo había sido enviado al periódico por carta que fue firmada «Radio Ham», y explicó que él no tenía forma de determinar la identidad del escritor. El Sr. XXXXX declaró que era su opinión que el código había sido hecho por un un «excéntrico» local quien había sido afectado por toda la publicidad en los periódicos que se le había dado en ese momento a la historia sobre los discos voladores.

De ese mismo 4 de septiembre hay un teletipo sobre el caso de Oswego, en donde se informó haber visto una serie de discos el 3 de septiembre de 1947. Mientras la testigo entretenía a su hijo de 7 años y niño del vecino de 10 años de edad en su jardín alrededor del mediodía, los niños notaron aproximadamente dos docenas de objetos redondos plateados en el cielo. La testigo declaró que creía que estos objetos tenían forma de plato en lugar de esférica y eran considerablemente más grandes que un avión del mismo tipo que volaba en una parte diferente del cielo, al mismo tiempo. Dijo que los objetos le parecieron estar a una gran distancia y construidos de un material metálico blanco. El avión estaba escribiendo en el cielo y eso fue lo que llamó la atención de los niños. Los objetos se agruparon aproximadamente un arco al nivel del sol y a la izquierda del sol. No cambiaron de posición durante 4 minutos, pero algunos de los más grandes parecieron para girar rápidamente en la manera de una rueda. Uno de los objetos se separó una distancia considerable del grupo principal y mientras ella estaba viendo este objeto comenzó a caer y flotó lentamente hacia abajo hasta que ya no era visible debido a los árboles en el horizonte. Ella continuó observando los objetos restantes hasta que sus ojos comenzaron a ser afectados por el brillo del cielo por lo que entró en su casa y no pudo afirmar qué pasó con el grupo.

Se hace referencia a mi teletipo fechado en agosto 15, 1947 señalando que un Sr. XXXXX de Agate Beach, Oregón había informado en agosto 7, 1947 que él avistó lo que él cree que es un disco. El Sr. XXXXX en lugar de XXXXX, ahora residiendo en Newport, Oregón fue entrevistado por el Agente Especial XXXXX El Sr. XXXXX dice que en agosto 7, 1947 él estaba residiendo en Agate Beach, Oregón y que su casa estaba muy cerca de la orilla del océano; que alrededor de las 12:30 A.M. él estaba despierto por la llegada de su hijo y que mientras estaba despierto notó un destello luminoso de luz a través del cielo sobre el océano. Él declara que inmediatamente pensó en discos voladores y pensó que podría ser uno de estos discos.
El Sr. XXXXX dijo que no tenía idea de la forma y tamaño de este objeto pero que parecía estar a cinco millas sobre el océano y que él fue capaz de verlo por alrededor de 15 a 30 segundos. Posteriormente dijo que debido a la oscuridad no podía decir nada sobre la velocidad de este objeto pero pensaba que estaba viajando a gran velocidad mayor que la de cualquier aeroplano que hubiera visto. Informó que este destello de luz era de alguna manera similar a las «Luces del Norte» que algunas veces aparecen en el cielo pero por supuesto ni cercanamente tan largo y que parecía ir de arriba abajo, esto es, fluctuando en altura mientras viajaba. Dijo que desapareció en el Oeste, ya sea cayendo en el océano o desapareciendo sobre el horizonte. No pudo dar ninguna otra información relativa a este objeto de luz reportado por él como posiblemente siendo un disco volador. El Sr. XXXXX y XXXXX tienda en Newport.

Se hace referencia a mi memorándum dirigido a usted sobre la materia en el asunto fechado en agosto 22, 1947, que indica que el Agente Especial XXXXX de la Sección de Enlace había contactado con el Teniente Coronel XXXXX de la Inteligencia de las Fuerzas Aéreas al momento en que el Coronel Garrett dijo que las Fuerzas Aéreas no estaban conduciendo investigación o experimentos en la vecindad de Twin Falls, Idaho, en o alrededor de agosto 19, 1947. El Coronel XXXXX en ese momento indicó al Sr. XXXXX que él revisaría con el Ejército el área con el objeto de asegurar si se estaba conduciendo o no algún experimento en esta vecindad en ese momento.
El Coronel XXXXX ha dicho subsecuentemente al Sr. XXXXX que el Ejército del área le ha dicho que ningún experimento fue conducido en la zona de Twin Falls, Idaho, en o alrededor de agosto 19, 1947, que pudiera en alguna forma dar alguna luz sobre el asunto informado en el teletipo.
RECOMENDACIÓN
Se recomienda que este memorándum sea reenviado al Sr. XXXXX de la Sección de Seguridad Interna.
